Anyone remember me asking at the end of last year whatever happened to Karen Hughes… Yeah, her? The one Bush crowned as Under Secretary for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs in early 2005. Taking over from my favorite “Lady-in-Advertising.” Charlotte Beers. Then Ms. Hughes went on a trip to the Middle East which turned into a fiasco when she assured a room of Saudi women that they too, could someday drive a Humvee, and they all more or less told her to fuck off. Then she tells them President Bush is a man of God (Think Crusader here) which obviously also goes down with the devoutly religious MUSLIM women like a lead balloon. I’m surprised she didn’t invite them to a Texas barbecue with pork ribs at the embassy.
